Opportunity description

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Regional Medical Officer at its Regional Office in Cairo. The selected professional will support the health and well-being of IOM staff members and their eligible dependents, while overseeing occupational health services, medical support systems, health insurance management, and regional health planning activities.

The Regional Medical Officer will work closely with IOM country offices, United Nations partners, and healthcare providers across the region to ensure the effective implementation of health policies, medical services, and staff wellness initiatives.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Review and approve medical examinations and health assessments for staff members.
  • Assess medical fitness for employment, travel, and deployment to various duty stations.
  • Provide occupational health and medical services to employees.
  • Oversee vaccination programmes and preventive healthcare initiatives.
  • Manage and review health insurance claims and medical coverage matters.
  • Support medical evacuations and emergency health response operations.
  • Advise management on health policies, medical clearances, and sick leave matters.
  • Develop and promote health awareness, wellness, and mental health programmes.
  • Prepare medical reports, statistical analyses, and health trend assessments.
  • Represent the organization in regional health meetings, working groups, and professional forums.

Eligibility criteria

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from a recognized university.
  • Postgraduate specialization in a medical field such as:
    • Internal Medicine
    • General Surgery
    • Occupational Health
  • Additional qualifications in Travel Medicine or Occupational Health are considered an advantage.
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience after obtaining the medical degree.
  • Experience in occupational health, preventive medicine, tropical medicine, medical evacuation, or health emergency management.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience managing medical teams and health services.
  • Experience in health insurance management and medical claims review is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural environments and collaborate with international organizations and stakeholders.
