Future Learn is offering this free online course called “German at Work Intermediate 1” to learners who want to develop their understanding of the German language and consolidate their communication skills for the workplace. German is the most widely spoken native language in Europe, and German-speaking countries benefit from strong economics and low unemployment. You’ll learn to talk about your career and write a CV, discuss employment and the right job for you, as well as find out more about education in Germany. You’ll develop your linguistic competence (at level B1) and deepen your cultural understanding. This course is for learners who already have an intermediate level of German, and it will last for 4 weeks, with an effort of 5 hours weekly. 

Topics covered:

  1. Talking about work and employment.
  2. The right job for you.
  3. Schooling and education in Germany.
  4. Talking about your career and writing a CV.

By the end of the course, you'll be able to:

  1. Apply intercultural communication skills, for example, following conventions for writing a CV.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of spoken and written German, for example, radio programs and short articles.
  3. Describe situations and give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
  4. Apply work-related vocabulary and phrases fluently and accurately.
  5. Apply appropriate structures to communicate accurately and with increasing complexity (for example, using different cases / using subordinate clauses).
