Job Description

Mott MacDonald is currently looking for a Dry Utilities Engineer for its Land Development team in Abu Dhabi, to support with the technical delivery of multiple master-planning/land development projects across the Emirate.


  1. Prepare designs and calculations to utility authority standards.
  2. Preparation of electrical load calculations, load schedules, LV schedules and voltage drop calculations, cable de-rating calculations, etc.
  3. Prepare designs for the following:
    • HV, MV and LV networks including the preparation of single line diagrams and layouts for infrastructure projects.
    • Telecommunication infrastructure network design and knowledge of GSM coverage requirements including preparation of layouts and coverage drawings.
    • Street lighting network design including preparation of single line diagrams, layouts and Voltage drop calculations.
    • Street lighting for tunnels/underpasses.
  4. Prepare lux calculations (DiaLux software) for street lighting.
  5. Seek the optimal solution from internal and external sources for any design-related issues.
  6. Outline cost and quantity estimation for dry services.
  7. Conduct a technical review for progress reporting.
  8. Liaising/meeting with developers, clients or stakeholders to update on progress.
  9. Provide any reports update to the projects design managers and project managers including clients when needed
  10. Coordinate aspects of projects submittal and deliverables, reviews and approvals against contract requirements. Report and advise on deviations from the same
  11. Assist in providing design, reports, and liaison role for all disciplines/departments.
  12. Assist the Manager/Senior Engineers or Designates in work coordination with other Mott MacDonald teams
  13. Assist in providing marketing support to the team with current and future clients


  1. Minimum Bachelors’ Degree in Electrical Engineering (or any relevant discipline); progressing towards Professional Registration (CEng or similar) with membership in a professional institution.
  2. Design of electrical systems using Civil3D.
  3. Experience and skills including ProjectWise, Infraworks, Navisworks, Openutilities etc.
  4. Ability to manage a design and approval process interfacing with the project team, Clients and Stakeholders.
  5. Sound knowledge of local authority and standards mainly (DPM/UPC, ADDC, TRANSCO, DoE/ ADWEA, ETISALAT, DU, RSB, ADM, DEWA, RTA, DM).
  6. In-depth understanding of Abu Dhabi Authority Guidelines is a must.
  7. Experienced in BIM.
  8. In-depth understanding of relevant software is a must.
  9. Strong infrastructure engineering background with previous experience on infrastructure projects.
  10. Understanding of the requirements for primary substations, pocket substations and feeder pillars as part of the design.
  11. Telecommunication infrastructure Network Design and knowledge of GSM coverage requirements.
  12. Well-versed with Abu Dhabi standards and requirements.
  13. Ability to relate to people of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  14. Ability work independently and review your own work on a regular basis.
  15. Commitment towards working with all internal and external stakeholders.
  16. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  17. A high attention to detail and a fundamental desire for delivering the best possible product at all time.
  18. Ability to deal efficiently with priorities and manage time appropriately.
  19. Advanced level proficiency with all MS Office products, including: Outlook; Word; Excel; and PowerPoint.
  20. A dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  21. Ability to effectively communicate at all levels including external stakeholders.
  22. Leadership and/or managerial experience along with mentoring skills.
  23. Ensure MacDonald HSE policies are at the forefront of all activities.
  24. Adopting a proactive approach towards complex tasks and overall delivery.
