<p>Gates Cambridge invites postgraduate students to apply for its scholarship program which was established in October 2000 by a donation of $210 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge; the largest ever single donation to a UK university. The university offers 90 full-cost scholarships each year to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the university. The aim of the program is to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.</p><h2>Eligibility criteria:</h2><p>[1] A citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom</p><p>[2] Applying to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses of study at the University of Cambridge:</p><ul><li>PhD (three-year research-only degree)</li><li>Master of Science or Master of Literature (two year research-only degree)</li><li>One year postgraduate course (e.g. Master of Philosophy, Diploma, MBA etc.)</li></ul><h2>Selection criteria:</h2><p>[1] Outstanding intellectual ability</p><p>[2] Leadership potential</p><p>[3] A commitment to improving the lives of others</p><p>[4] A good fit between the applicant&rsquo;s qualifications and aspirations and the postgraduate program at Cambridge for which they are applying</p><h2>Value of scholarship:</h2><p>[1] The university tuition fees at the appropriate rate</p><p>[2] A maintenance allowance for a single student (&pound;17,500 for 12 months at the 2018-19 rate)</p><p>[3] One economy single airfare at both the beginning and end of the course</p><p>[4] Inbound visa costs &amp; the cost of the Immigration Health Surcharge</p><p>[5] Academic development funding - from &pound;500 to &pound;2,000, dependent on the length of your course, to attend conferences and courses</p><p>[6] Family allowance - up to &pound;10,120 for a first child and up to &pound;4,320 for a second child&nbsp;</p><p>[7] Fieldwork - you may apply to keep up to your normal maintenance allowance while on fieldwork as part of your PhD&nbsp;</p><p>[8] Some fourth year funding for PhD Scholars may be provided</p><h2>About Gates Cambridge:</h2><p>The Gates Cambridge Scholarship program was established in October 2000. While at Cambridge, Scholars pursue the full range of subjects available at the University and are spread across its departments and Colleges. The university&rsquo;s alumni are pursuing further study or employment across many sectors of society and, despite the relative youth of the program, are increasingly taking on leadership roles and applying their knowledge and skills to improve the lives of others.</p>
