Opportunity description

Mophradat is providing a unique residency opportunity to conduct research in the archive of Meeting Points in Brussels, Belgium. The opportunity is for a researcher interested in contemporary arts from the Arab world and curatorial models of exchange and presentation.

Details:

Between 2004 and 2017, Mophradat commissioned produced and presented a touring arts multidisciplinary festival for the Arab world titled Meeting Points, which had eight editions. During its life span, the festival changed the form, grew and contracted in response to changing circumstances, and was guest curated by Frie Leysen, Okwui Enwezor, WHW, amongst others. Much of this rich history is in need of assembling and reflection, and for this research Mophradat is looking for a graduate student, academic, emerging curator, art historian, or so interested in developing the archive of material, organizing the information, and analyzing it as part of Mophradat’s institutional history and as part of their own research interests. The program will be from 2-3 months.

About The Position:

The selected researcher will be given access to Mophradat’s archival materials, as well as the necessary help and contacts to pursue the line of inquiry they are interested in. They are expected to devise a classification system, initiate contacts to locate missing documents, conduct the necessary interviews (when possible), and flag the most important content of the archive.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Fluent written and spoken communication in English (Arabic literacy is an asset).
  • Experience in academic research and knowledge of working with archives (through their own project or previous employment).
  • Experience with contemporary artists, exhibitions and/or commissions in a gallery, studio, museum, or festival environment.
  • Proactive approach and ability to work independently.

Funding:

A daily stipend will be provided for meals and local transportation on office days.
