Opportunity description

The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies announced the opening of the second Arab Ph.D. students in Western universities Conference. This conference provides a research space for doctoral students to present papers developed during the preparation of PhD thesis.

About the Conference:

This conference, which will be held during the period 28-30 March 2020, will provide an area for Arab PhD students in Western universities, as well as researchers who have recently obtained a doctorate from these universities in various fields of social and human sciences, to present research projects from their study so they can benefit from reviews and observations of academics in their fields. Being held in the Arab world this conference will allow these students to get a closer look at Arab research agendas and help them to have professional and research relationships with academics in the region's universities. Participating in the conference also allows these students to publish their research papers in Arabic. This contributes to informing the academic community, and the general Arab public, about this research product, which is usually published in non-Arabic languages.

Eligibility:

Candidates participating in this conference must:

Be PhD students from the Arab region who pursue their studies at Western universities or from those whom newly acquired PhDs (2018 and 2019) from Western universities.

Participation Requirement:

  • Research proposal in Arabic or English (500 words, including the main topic of the research and it's methodology). The papers submitted must be prepared after approval of the proposal, provided that they are in accordance with the formal and objective specifications of the research paper approved by the Center.
  • Newly updated CV.
  • A sample of the applicant's writings (a previous research paper, if there's any).
  • Recommendation (at least one) of academic identifiers (each academic fills out and submits the recommendation form by his own).

The Academic Committee of the Conference will review the applications of applicants and their research proposals and select participants on the basis of competitiveness.

Participation Fees:

  • Registration for PhD students is free.
  • The Arab Center will cover all accommodation expenses and meals during the conference.
  • There will be a grant to cover the travel expenses of participants from their countries of study to the venue of the conference, obtaining this grant is subject to competition between applicants.
