Opportunity description
AUC launched the Public School Scholarship Fund (PSSF) in 1990 to expand opportunities to academically outstanding and financially disadvantaged students. Selection of finalists is based on high academic achievement, need and geographic diversity. Supported by both individuals and corporations, the PSSF has graduated more than 280 students who attended public schools and who have demonstrated exceptional academic potential while at AUC.
Today, over 100 PSSF recipients are enrolled at AUC; over 30 of them are supported by individual and corporate donors, while the remaining students are awarded scholarships funded by AUC.

Eligibility criteria
- Submit an admission application to The American University in Cairo before the specified deadline for the Fall and Spring 2026 semesters.
- Applicants must be Egyptian nationals who are about to graduate from public schools (excluding language schools), experimental schools, STEM schools, or Nile Schools.
- Have an outstanding academic record throughout middle and high school.
- Provide proof of financial need.
- Fulfill all admission requirements of the American University in Cairo.
- Obtain a high school certificate from public or experimental schools within the Arab Republic of Egypt, or a STEM or EICE certificate for Nile Schools students.
- The previous minimum admission requirements were 97% for the scientific stream, 94% for the literary stream, and 92% for STEM and EICE students. These percentages may vary for the 2026 cycle.
- Applicants must achieve a minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 with at least 5.5 in writing, or a TOEFL iBT total score of at least 62 with 17 in writing.
- To maintain the scholarship, accepted students must keep a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 throughout their studies.
- Note: Selected students are required to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher in order to continue receiving the scholarship.
To maintain the scholarship selected students have to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above.
