Opportunity description
Flinders University is offering international students the opportunity to apply for the Australian Government Research Training Program (AGRTP) Scholarships for 2021, which aim to support international students to undertake a research higher degree. A limited number (up to 10) of scholarships are available each year, is highly competitive and is considered on the basis of academic merit, academic research training and research indicators and performance. The scholarship is tenable for up to three years for a research doctorate degree and up to two years for a research master’sdegree
Benefits
- The scholarships enable suitably qualified applicants to commence a full-time Higher Degree by research.
- The scholarship pays the international student tuition fees charged by Flinders University for a Higher Degree by research.
- The scholarship includes an international tuition fee offset, a living stipend paid at the rate of $27,596 (2019 rate), which is tax exempt and indexed annually, and Overseas Health Care cover.
- International students who move to Adelaide from overseas are eligible for an establishment allowance (after arrival at Flinders) of up to $1,485 to assist with relocation costs and airfares, provided receipts can be produced by the student.
Eligibility criteria
- Satisfy the university's academic entry requirements for a master’s degree by research or doctorate by research, which includes having completed postgraduate qualification:
- At least a year’s duration (full-time equivalent).
- Equivalent to AQF 8 or 9.
- Achieving distinction overall in that qualification (75%).
- A research thesis or dissertation equivalent to 6 months’ full-time study of at least 10,000 words or equivalent research experience including a substantial first author refereed publication.
- Have successfully completed at least the equivalent of an Australian First Class Honors degree (a 4-year degree with a major research project in the final year)
- Have met the English proficiency levels set by the university for international students at the time of application. Students for whom English is a foreign language will need to provide evidence of their English language competence
- Not hold an equivalent research higher degree qualification. Applications are only open to students commencing a research higher degree in Australia for the first time
- Not hold Australian citizenship, Australian permanent resident status of New Zealand citizenship
