Opportunity description

Rhodes Trust in partnership with Muhammad Alagil offers one scholarship to Saudi students who wish to complete their postgraduate studies in the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. The Rhodes Scholarship program is the oldest (established in 1903), and perhaps the most prestigious and international scholarship program in the world. Administered by the Rhodes Trust in Oxford, the program covers more than 100 fully-funded scholarships each year for postgraduate study for young leaders of outstanding intellect and character who are motivated to engage with global challenges, commit to the service of others and show promise of becoming value-driven principled leaders in the future.

Selection Criteria:

The selection committee is looking for the following:

  • Academic excellence (e.g. First Class Honors or GPA of minimum 3.7 out of 4 or equivalent)
  • Energy to use talents to the full (as demonstrated by mastery in areas such as sports, music, debate, theatre, and artistic pursuits, particularly where team work is involved)
  • Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship
  • Moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in your fellow human beings



Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of Saudi Arabia.
  • Have been resident in Saudi Arabia for at least five of the last ten years.
  • Have reached 18 years and not have passed 24 years on October 1, 2020, which means applicants must have been born after October 1, 1996 and on or before October 1, 2002
  • Applicant must have completed (or will have completed by June / July 2020) an undergraduate degree from a college or university (normally a Bachelor’s degree) with a GPA of 3.7 out of 4.0 or higher.
  • Applicant must have a sufficiently high standard of English and have met -by the application deadline the English language proficiency requirements for IELTS / TOEFL (at the Higher Level listed) of the University of Oxford.

Required Documents:

  • A copy of a valid passport (with translation, if necessary), confirming that applicant meet the age and citizenship criteria
  • An official transcript from the college or university at which the applicant is studying, or have studied, showing grades achieved (to date).
  • Evidence that you have been resident in Saudi Arabia for five of the last ten years (e.g. school records)
  • Evidence of English language proficiency (TOEFL/IELTS)
  • CV without including a photograph (two pages maximum)
  • A color photograph (JPG format)
  • A personal statement (no more than 1,000 words) that should include answers to: Who are you? What matters to you? What are you hoping to do in the world?
  • At least 5 of academic referees who can comment in detail on the applicant academic ability and how well they think he would fare at Oxford
