<p>The Hungarian government offers a number of <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Scholarships" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>scholarships</strong></a> for <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Scholarships?phd=1" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Ph.D.</strong></a> degrees under the Stipendium Hungaricum Program managed by Tempus Public Foundation, 19 Hungarian higher education institutions are engaged in the Stipendium Hungaricum Program, with almost 150 study programs, generally in English and Hungarian languages.</p><p>The program seeks to increase the number of foreign students in Hungary and to encourage Hungarian higher education institutions to attract top foreign students. It also aims to strengthen international relations for the Hungarian academic and research community, promote cultural diversity within Hungarian higher education institutions and contribute to the promotion of Hungarian culture and language abroad.</p><h3>Doctoral Programs in Hungary:</h3><p>The duration of doctoral programs is 8 semesters. Doctoral programs are divided into two different phases: the first phase (4 semesters) is for professional training and research, while the second phase (4 semesters) is for research and dissertation. At the end of the first 4 semesters, doctoral students are obliged to take a complex exam. Doctoral students can only continue with the second phase of their studies upon the successful completion of the complex exam.</p><h3>Benefits:</h3><p><strong>The scholarship covers the following:</strong></p><ul><li>Tuition fees.</li><li>Monthly stipend:</li><li>According to the current Hungarian legislation, the monthly amount of the scholarship is HUF 140,000 (cca EUR 415) for the first phase of education (4 semesters)<span dir="RTL">&nbsp;</span>and HUF 180,000 (cca EUR 530) for the second phase (4 semesters) - for 12 months a year, until the completion of studies.</li><li>Free dormitory place or a contribution of HUF 40,000/month to accommodation costs for the whole duration of the scholarship period.</li><li>Medical insurance.</li></ul><h3>Eligibility Criteria:</h3><ul><li>Applications will be considered eligible only if the applicant is nominated by the responsible authorities of the Sending Partner.</li><li>Hungarian citizens (including those with dual citizenship), persons granted refugee status, persons enjoying temporary protection, persons admitted for subsidiary protection and persons granted humanitarian protection are not eligible.</li><li>Applicants born after 31 August 2001 (= applicants under 18 years old as of 31 August 2021) are not eligible except applicants applying for Dance study programs.</li><li>Those Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Holders can apply for the program who apply to continue their studies at a different cycle of education, e.g. <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Scholarships?master=1" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">master&rsquo;s</a> student Scholarship Holders can apply for doctoral studies.</li><li>Applicants who are now re-applying for the program for any cycles of education while they still have a scholarship status at the time of application are not eligible (unless they withdraw their former scholarship before the application deadline) and will not receive their degree until 31 August 2021</li><li>Those former Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Holders who have postponed the start date of their scholarship studies and did not withdraw their scholarship before the current application deadline are not eligible.</li></ul><h3>Required Documents:</h3><ul><li>Online application form.</li><li>Motivation Letter:</li></ul><ul><li>minimum 1 page, typed in Times New Roman 12-point font size letters.</li><li>written in the language of the selected study program or in Hungarian.</li></ul><ul><li>Proof of language proficiency and their translations in the language of the selected study program or in Hungarian.</li><li>Scanned copy of the original master&#39;s degree certificate or equivalent AND its translation only if the copy of the original document is not in the language of the selected study program or in English.</li><li>Research Plan:</li></ul><ul><li>minimum 2 pages, typed in Times New Roman 12-point font size letters, written in the language of the selected study program.</li></ul><ul><li>Two signed Letters of Recommendation from the applicant&rsquo;s former or current academic tutor(s), written in the language of the selected study program or in Hungarian. The two letters cannot be issued by the same person.</li><li>A statement by the supervisor at the proposed Host Institution declaring that the supervisor undertakes to supervise the student&#39;s work within the doctoral program.</li><li>Transcript of Records and its translations in the language of the selected study program or in Hungarian.</li><li>Medical Certificate: certificates have to be issued and signed by a physician to prove that the applicant does not have the following illnesses: AIDS, Hepatitis A, B, C, or any other epidemic conditions.</li><li>A scanned copy of the passport.
