Opportunity description

Pink Lady contest invites amateur and professional photographers around the world to participate in the 2021 edition. The categories cover the full cultural range of the depiction of food in society – there is something for everyone.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Entrants into the Adult competition must be aged 18 or over on the closing date of the 7th of February 2021.
  • Entrants into the Young competition must be aged 17 or under on the closing date of the 7th February 2021.
  • Entries may be submitted from any country.
  • No image which has won the title of Overall Winner of a photographic competition can be entered.
  • The competition is open to anyone except:
  • Those involved in the organization of the Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year.
  • Family or friends of the Organisers of the Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year.
  • Those involved in the marketing and promotion of the Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year.
  • Judges or the Sponsors of the Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year.

In addition to the £5,000GBP top prize:

  • You will have the opportunity to see your work displayed at a prestigious gallery to be announced shortly, giving your work free high-profile exposure. This is intended to help publicize your creativity, and encourage and inspire others to develop their skills in food photography for the following year.
  • A dedicated page will be added to our website showing an in-depth profile of the overall winner featuring the winning image.
  • You will receive a dedicated press release promoting your image to international photography and food media.
  • Your hard work and creativity will be credited wherever the image is used and will be seen by millions of people across the globe.

Category winners:

  • All category winners will receive a prestigious trophy.
  • The winner of the Errazuriz Wine Photographer of the Year category will win £1000GBP.
  • The winner of the Pink Lady® Apple a Day category will win £1000GBP and the winning image may be used by Pink Lady® in its multi-media marketing campaign.
  • The winner of the Production Paradise Food off the Press category will win a special feature in the Production Paradise Spotlight Food & Drink Photography online magazine, along with a 12-image gallery of their work.
  • The winner of One Vision Imaging Cream of the Crop will win £300GBP for use against One Vision Imaging services.
  • The winner of the Fujifilm Award for Innovation will win a Fujifilm X100V, worth £1300. (No cash alternative).
  • The winner and two runners up of the Student Food Photographer of the Year category will receive an RPS Membership, worth £120. The winning student will also have their work published in the award-winning RPS Journal. In addition, the winner of the Student Food Photographer of the Year category will have the unique opportunity to have a 90 minute one-to-one (preferably in person, otherwise by Skype) with Commercial Photography Consultant and Mentor, Zoe Whishaw. This will include:
  • Image review of up to 30 images.
  • Website review.
  • Analysis of creative direction.
  • Options and ideas to take career forwards.
  • You will have the opportunity to see your work displayed at a prestigious gallery to be announced shortly, giving your work free high-profile exposure. This is intended to help publicize your creativity, and encourage and inspire others to develop their skills in food photography for the following year.

Participation Rules:

  • Types of files for entry have to be still photographs.
  • Entries must be digital files, submitted as JPEGs, and at 1920 pixels along the longest dimension. Scans of transparencies and negatives are permitted. No borders, watermarks, or signatures must be included on the image.
  • Digitally captured images must be taken on a device that can produce a suitable high-resolution file for printing.
  • For the initial entry into the competition images:
  • images must be submitted as JPEG files (jpg or jpeg).
  • image files must total no more than 16mb
  • image files must be no more than 1920 pixels along the longest dimension.

If your work is shortlisted:

  • You must be able to supply a high-resolution file, suitable for printing in all media and for inclusion in an Exhibition. These images must have a resolution of at least 300dpi printed at A2 size.
  • Digital files that have been enhanced using photographic editing software must not have had the integrity and subject matter of the photograph changed. If the judges consider that this has occurred then the entry may be disqualified.

Video entries to the Food Film Shorts category:

  • Films will be judged on content. They
  • May be no longer than three minutes in length (180 seconds) including titles.
  • Must be no more than 100mb for initial submission.
  • Must be U or PG-rated in accordance with the British Board of Film Classification guidelines.
  • Must comply with Ofcom's Broadcasting Code (in particular your film must be suitable for transmission before 9 pm)
  • Must comply with the CAP (non-broadcast) Code
  • Must be in English or subtitled in English
  • Must only use music that you have the rights to use
  • Must be sent in digital format
  • Must be the work of the entrant
  • The following formats will be accepted:
  • MOV
  • MPEG 4
  • If your work is shortlisted, we will require your work in its highest quality to be sent digitally.
  • Rights forms (actors, locations, and music) must be made available on request.

Competition Schedule:

  • The competition closes on 7th February 2021. 
  • Shortlisted entrants will be notified in March 2021 and higher resolution files requested. 
  • Entrants may not identify any entries as having been selected as Finalist entries until after the announcement of the winners has been made in April 2021.
  • The judging of the shortlisted entries will take place in March 2021, and the winners announced in April 2021.
