Anthology Magazine has opened submissions for the Anthology Short Story Competition, an international competition aimed at supporting and encouraging creative writing while giving writers the opportunity to publish their work and reach a wider audience.
The competition accepts original, previously unpublished short stories written in English and is open to writers of all nationalities from any country around the world. There is no fixed theme or literary style, giving participants the freedom to choose their own ideas and writing approach, provided that the story does not exceed 1,500 words.
Applicants may submit more than one story, but each entry must be submitted separately and requires a separate entry fee.
Benefits
The competition offers the following prizes:
- First Place: A cash prize of €1,000, in addition to publication of the winning story in a future issue of Anthology Magazine.
- Second Place: €250.
- Third Place: €150.
- The winner will also receive a one-year Reedsy Learning membership, including access to advanced courses and conferences.
- Shortlisted participants will be able to join a live writing course of their choice through Reedsy Learning.
- All participants will receive a 10% discount on Reedsy Learning membership.
Eligibility criteria
To participate in the competition, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The competition is open to writers of all nationalities from around the world.
- It is open to participants of all ages.
- The story must be written in English.
- The story must be original and previously unpublished.
- The story must not exceed 1,500 words.
- There are no restrictions on the story’s theme or literary style.
- Multiple entries are allowed, but each story requires a separate application form and entry fee.
- Simultaneous submissions are permitted, but if the work is accepted for publication elsewhere, it must be withdrawn from the competition.
- Generative AI is not permitted for creating submitted works.
Story Formatting Requirements
- Upload the file in PDF or Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) format.
- Use Arial or Times New Roman, size 12.
- Use 1.5 or double line spacing.
- Do not include a separate cover page.
- Place the story title at the top of the first page.
- Include the word count at the top right of the first page.
- Do not include the author’s name in the story or file name, as entries are judged anonymously.
Entry Fees
The entry fee varies depending on the submission date:
- €12: from August 1 to October 31, 2026.
- €15: from November 1, 2026 to January 31, 2027.
- €18: from February 1 to August 30, 2027.
