Communication Arts magazine has opened submissions for its 2027 Photography Competition, an international contest that recognizes outstanding work in photography, cinematography, and visual creativity.

The competition accepts images and projects that were first published or produced between March 2026 and March 2027, including professional work, experimental projects, unpublished work, and student projects.

Entries will be evaluated by an international jury of professional photographers and creative directors. Winning works will be featured in the Communication Arts Photography Annual, in both print and digital editions, as well as on the magazine’s website.

Competition Categories

Entries may be submitted under the following categories:

  1. Advertising: Photographs used in advertisements, posters, product packaging, and music-related materials.
  2. Books: Book covers and interior book designs.
  3. Editorial: Images published in magazines, newspapers, and professional publications.
  4. For Sale: Prints, posters, greeting cards, licensed images, and works displayed in shops or galleries.
  5. Institutional: Images used in corporate reports, catalogues, websites, and blogs.
  6. Motion and Cinematography: Films, videos, and visual work created for the web or television.
  7. Self-Promotion: Work used by photographers, agencies, or art schools to promote their services.
  8. Unpublished Work: Personal and experimental projects that have not been published previously.
  9. Student Work: Photography or cinematography projects completed as part of academic requirements.

Eligibility criteria

Entries must meet the following requirements:

  1. The work must have been first published or produced between March 2026 and March 2027.
  2. Entries may be submitted from any country worldwide.
  3. Professional photographers, freelance photographers, students, and creative organizations are eligible to apply.
  4. A description of the work must be submitted in English, as English-language descriptions are important for the judging process.
  5. Applicants must own the rights to the submitted work or have legal permission to use the content.
  6. Student work must have been completed as part of an academic project or assignment.
  7. The same student project may not be submitted simultaneously in both the student category and another category.
  8. Images generated using text-to-image artificial intelligence tools are not accepted.
  9. Both published works and unpublished personal projects may be submitted under the appropriate category.

Entry Fees

Fees vary depending on the type of submission:

General Photography Categories

  1. Single image: USD 40.
  2. Series of up to five images: USD 80.

Motion and Cinematography

  1. Single video: USD 90.
  2. Series of up to three videos: USD 180.

Student Category

  1. Single image: USD 20.
  2. Image series: USD 40.
  3. Single video: USD 45.
  4. Video series: USD 90.
