The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers a scholarship under the Development-Related Postgraduate Courses – EPOS program to study the International Studies in Aquatic Tropical Ecology – ISATEC track at the University of Bremen in Germany.
ISATEC is a specialized track within the Master of Science in Marine Biology program. It focuses on the study, management, and protection of tropical aquatic ecosystems, including marine ecology, fisheries, aquaculture, coastal planning, and natural resource management.
The program is taught entirely in English, lasts four semesters, equivalent to two years, and starts once a year during the Winter Semester.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The applicant must be a citizen of one of the developing countries eligible for the program.
- The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, environmental sciences, or a closely related field.
- The applicant’s academic grade must be at least equivalent to 2.5 according to the German grading system.
- The applicant must be among high-performing students, preferably within the top third of their class.
- The applicant must have at least two years of relevant professional experience after obtaining the bachelor’s degree.
- The academic degree should usually not be older than six years at the time of application.
- The applicant must demonstrate clear development-related motivation and the ability to use their knowledge to contribute to the development of their country and community.
- The applicant must not have resided in Germany for more than 15 months by the application deadline.
- The applicant must meet the English language requirements of the program.
- The applicant must be able to study full-time in Germany for two years.
Required Documents
The application usually requires the following documents:
- Signed EPOS program checklist.
- DAAD-EPOS scholarship application form.
- CV/resume in Europass format, arranged chronologically from the most recent to the oldest.
- Motivation letter in English explaining the academic, professional, and personal reasons for applying.
- Recent recommendation letter from the current employer, written on official letterhead, signed, and stamped.
- Employment certificates proving at least two years of relevant professional experience after the bachelor’s degree.
- English language proficiency certificate.
- Bachelor’s degree certificate.
- Complete university transcript with an explanation of the grading system.
- Certified translation of documents not issued in German or English.
- Academic and additional documents required by the University of Bremen.
