Opportunity description

Join the volunteer program in Hveragerði, Iceland to support health and the environment, gaining hands-on experience in environmental protection and community work in the heart of Icelandic nature, with the opportunity to learn from local experts and connect with international volunteers.


The program covers:

  • Accommodation: Equipped volunteer housing, usually in shared or single rooms depending on availability.
  • Basic meals: Daily meals including breakfast and either lunch or dinner, depending on the program.
  • Volunteer activities and supervision: Support and guidance from local organizers during fieldwork, with all necessary equipment for environmental and health projects.
  • Organized trips and activities: Some programs include short trips to explore local nature and culture, such as the Golden Circle or educational visits to environmental sites.
  • Official participation certificate: Upon completion of the program, volunteers receive an official certificate confirming their participation and experience in environmental and health projects.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Environmental project support: Planting trees and native plants, cleaning and protecting natural areas and water sources.
  • Community health contribution: Participating in local health awareness activities, supporting public health programs or environmentally related health initiatives.
  • Interaction with the local community: Working with residents to promote health and environmental programs, assisting in organizing community events or awareness campaigns.
  • Teamwork with international volunteers: Collaborating in multinational teams to implement projects, contributing to solving daily challenges during fieldwork.
  • Reporting and documentation: Recording daily activities or project outcomes as instructed by organizers, assisting in evaluating project impact and improving work methods.
  • Adherence to rules and guidelines: Following safety protocols during fieldwork, complying with schedules for work, accommodation, and group activities.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants must be under 18 years old.

  • Willingness to work in a natural and community-based environment.

  • No prior experience required, although experience in environmental or health-related fields is an advantage.
