Klassik Stiftung Weimar invites doctoral candidates to a scholarship opportunity; Shakespeare Scholarship. This program is targeted applicants who have attained an excellent university degree and whose proposed research projects in Weimar are necessary for completing their dissertations. Consideration is given to interdisciplinary and comparative research proposals with a focus on theatre, Shakespeare and his contemporaries, the expression and reception of the early modern period, and in particular, the era of Weimar Classicism.

If you get this scholarship, you will have:
- The funding duration ranges between two and three months valued at 1,000 euros per month.
- Assistant with finding suitable accommodation in Weimar by the head office of the German Shakespeare Foundation.
- Free admission to all museums and historical sites of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar.
- In accordance with current tax law, the Shakespeare Scholarship is neither subject to income tax nor pension insurance contributions.
Eligibility criteria
You must meet the following criteria:
- The applicant must hold an appropriate academic qualification.
- The project must possess a clearly recognizable reference to the collection holdings of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar.
- The project must possess significance for scientific/academic research.
- A committee comprised of members of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the advisory board of the German Shakespeare Foundation is responsible for selecting the scholarship recipients.
Obligations of the scholarship holders:
You will obligate to:
- conduct your research in the museums, archives, and libraries of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar.
- take part in regular colloquia during your stay in Weimar.
- present a work report and answer some additional questions at the end of your stay in Weimar, and no later than four weeks of the expiration of their award. As well as gives your suggestions to improve or develop the Shakespeare Scholarship program.
- make appropriate mention of the support provided by the Klassik Stiftung Weimar in all publications originating from your stay in Weimar. You must use the phrase: “This study was supported by an award from the Klassik Stiftung Weimar".
