Tashkeel is offering a Workshop in UAE in collaboration with Sikka Platform and Al Safa Art & Design Library: Shades of Nature: Pigment Making.

Schedule:

  • Date: 16 & 23 July 2023 
  • Time: 3 - 6 pm
  • Capacity: 15 spaces left
  • Location: Al Safa Art & Design Library
  • Fees: AED 535.00 (+VAT) Please note that fees are non-refundable.

Benefits

Each participant will leave the workshop with 3-4 half pans of meticulously handcrafted watercolour paints. You'll also receive leftover pigments, providing a wealth of opportunities to experiment and explore the limitless possibilities of your newfound artistic medium.

Eligibility criteria

The applicants should participate in the workshop which consists of 2 sessions:


  • In the first session:
  1. Tilika will take you on a journey through the stages of pigment creation. 
  2. Discover the meticulous art of grinding, washing, and mulling rocks into exquisite pigments. 
  3. Witness the transformation of plant-based dyes into captivating lake pigments, capturing the essence of our unique UAE landscapes.
  • The second session:
  1. is where the magic truly comes alive. 
  2. Guided by Tilika's, you'll embark on the exhilarating process of turning these carefully derived pigments into your very own watercolour paints.

About Tashkeel:

Latifa bint Maktoum established the Tashkeel Center in Dubai in 2008 to provide an incubating environment for the development of contemporary art and design practices in the United Arab Emirates. The center opens the door to creative and experimental practices and dialogue between practitioners and the community at large, as it provides multidisciplinary studios, work spaces and exhibitions in Nad Al Sheba and Al Fahidi neighbourhood. Tashkeel adopts an open membership model and its annual program of training, residencies, workshops, discussions, exhibitions, international collaborations and publications aims to support the development of artistic practitioners, engage the community and promote a lifelong learning approach as well as support the various creative and cultural industries.
