The African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) is accepting applications for the Young Leaders in Research (YLR) Program – Cohort 2027, a 12-month funded research programme designed for early-career African researchers interested in economics, policy, development, and economic transformation in Africa.
The programme aims to support a new generation of researchers capable of producing policy-relevant research that helps address economic and development challenges and contributes to advancing Africa’s economic transformation agenda.
Selected participants will receive a research grant of up to USD 15,000, in addition to mentorship and guidance from senior ACET researchers, as well as opportunities for learning, professional networking, and presenting and publishing their research.
Research Areas
Research proposals are encouraged to focus on one of the following areas:
- Regional Integration.
- Innovation and Digital Policy.
- Green Industrial Transformation.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants are eligible to apply if they:
- Are a citizen of an African country or currently reside in Africa.
- Are 35 years old or younger as of January 1, 2027.
- Hold a master’s degree or are currently enrolled in a master’s programme.
- Study or hold a qualification in Economics or a related analytical field.
- Are an early-career researcher.
- Are interested in conducting research related to public policy and economic transformation in Africa.
