Free Online Course from CLAYSS: Development of Service-Learning Projects

CLAYSS is offering a free online course entitled Development of Service-Learning Projects. The course lasts for four months. Dedication: 2 to 3 hours a week. The student receives a certificate at the end of the course, accredited by CLAYSS.

Contents:

• Solidarity educational experiences within educational systems and civil society organizations.
• Unsystematic solidarity initiatives, institutional volunteer programs, and service-learning projects.
• Service-learning is a pedagogical proposal.
• Institutional transitions towards service learning.
• Planning and development of service-learning projects.
• Strategies and tools to develop at each stage of the project.
• Evaluation of service-learning projects.
• Service-learning and educational quality.
• Work with the community and network.

Objectives:

• Promote the design, implementation, and institutionalization of educational projects based on the service-learning pedagogy in schools and civil society organizations.
• Recognize the characteristics of a service-learning project and its differences with other solidarity practices.
• Learn and apply different strategies and tools for the diagnosis, design, implementation, and evaluation of service-learning projects.
• Reflect on the role of educators (teachers, youth leaders, and non-formal education spaces) as service-learning project coordinators, and the impact of community-based educational practices on children, adolescents, youth, and their communities.

Who is the Course for?

• Teachers, authorities, and workers of elementary, primary, and high school educational levels.
• Community representatives and members of civil society organizations.

Evaluation:

• Development of unit assignments.
• Participation in the forums.
• Presentation of a written individual final service-learning project.

The organization aims to contribute to the growth of a fraternal and participative culture in Latin America through the development of educational social engagement projects. CLAYSS offers training to faculty and community leaders to develop service-learning projects and to aid in the formation of pro-social attitudes.
