Opportunity description

The Senior Librarian Specialist is responsible for overseeing the internal and external operations across all branches of the Abdul Hameed Shoman Library. The role involves conducting research and providing recommendations to improve efficiency and ensure user satisfaction. The Senior Librarian Specialist strives to maintain the library’s sustainability as a key hub of knowledge and culture in the community by offering innovative services that align with the digital age and the evolving needs of users.

Duties & responsibilities

Periodic Reporting and Research-Based Analyses for Library Performance Assessment and Service Improvement

  • Prepare regular reports based on field research and internal analyses to evaluate the library's performance, offering recommendations to enhance services and expand its impact.
  • Conduct studies and research to understand the needs of the local community and library users.
  • Collect data and feedback from library visitors to develop services that meet their expectations, designing new programs based on research findings and audience needs.
  • Continuously explore the latest library services and technologies, such as e-books, distance learning, and electronic access platforms, to improve user experiences.
  • Investigate advanced library management technologies and solutions, including digital resource management systems and AI-powered information classification tools, recommending suitable options for the library environment.
  • Supervise and monitor daily operations in library branches, proposing improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop innovative methods to reduce time and effort in material processing and service delivery.
  • Seek opportunities for collaboration with universities, cultural institutions, and research centers to develop programs and broaden the library’s activities.
  • Regularly review library policies and procedures, preparing operational manuals.
  • Organize training workshops to improve staff competencies in service delivery.

Promoting the Library as a Community Hub and a Catalyst for Change

  • Contribute to the library’s role as a community center and agent of change by planning and implementing an annual cultural and educational activity plan for the general public and library visitors. These efforts aim to increase the library’s visibility, memberships, book borrowing, and reading promotion.
  • Manage and design cultural and community programs that encourage reading and highlight the library’s role.
  • Conduct field visits to all library branches to monitor activities, programs, and workflow.
  • Ensure integration between various library services and other departments, such as competitions, awards, podcasts, blogs, and more.
  • Support tracking library performance metrics, identifying issues, and collaborating with the direct supervisor to resolve challenges while ensuring that departmental goals are met.

Eligibility criteria

Qualifications and Skills

  • A bachelor’s degree in Cultural Studies, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. A certified qualification in Project Management is preferred.
  • Proven ability to conduct research, analyze data, and apply findings to enhance services and develop new programs.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills in both Arabic and English. Capability to build effective relationships with staff, users, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated experience in team supervision and capacity building, with a collaborative leadership style that fosters innovation and continuous learning.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate multiple programs and initiatives simultaneously.
  • A talent for innovation and developing forward-thinking solutions to improve services and adapt to evolving user needs.
  • Passion for community engagement with experience in designing and implementing programs that promote cultural participation and knowledge exchange.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and strategic thinking ability to address challenges and implement effective solutions.
