Opportunity description

Are you a young director or a student in film making who lives in Jordan? Do you speak French ? Will you be under 30 years old on January 1st, 2019?

The Department of Cooperation and Cultural Action of the French Embassy in Jordan offers an internship to a candidate who reside in Jordan, to participate in the Summer School at la Fémis in Paris from May 31st to July 26th, 2019. This internship will focus on documentary films.

This training, which consists of two parts, one theoretical and other practical, is offered by France's leading film school and one of the most internationally renowned schools, la Fémis - the National School of Image and Sound Works. You will be able to complete your technical expertise and enhance your documentary film practice through this program.

The program:

The program runs for 8 weeks at a rate of 5 days of intensive courses per week, it is organized so that each trainee will produce a creative documentary film of 5-10 minutes. The trainees will spend four weeks of theoretical sessions, that include numerous film shows in conjunction with the meetings of film selection and design, while the remaining four weeks are devoted solely to the practice of documentaries.

First part (4 weeks)

The courses are given by regular lecturers, professionals and former students, of la Fémis on the following themes: writing, production and cutting documentaries and their production conditions (meetings with expert producers in co-productions, and people who are responsible for cinemas in the world and the global film industry).

Second part (4 weeks): production of a documentary

Each trainee will make a documentary film of about 5-10 minutes and will work on the different phases of documentary's development: writing, following-up, filming and editing. Trainees will work in teams of 5 and alternately take care of the various workstations (production, image, sound, editing, ...). Throughout this part, the trainees are supervised by filmmakers and editors.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Participants must hold a grant for this internship from the French Embassies of the eligible countries: (North Africa, Africa, Latin America, Asia - except South Korea, Japan and Singapore - Central and Eastern Europe - outside the European Union - and the Middle East).
  2. Proficiency in writing, speaking and reading French language.
  3. Applicants must be under 30 years of age as of January 1st, 2019.
  4. This course is reserved for holders of a grant from the French embassies.
