Job Opening: Configuration Manager at CERN in Switzerland 2018

The European Organization for Nuclear Research "CERN" offers a job opportunity as Configuration Manager in Switzerland. This vacancy is at the Engineering Department which provides CERN with the Engineering Competences, Infrastructure Systems and Technical Coordination required for the design, installation, operation, maintenance and dismantling phases of the CERN accelerator complex and its experimental facilities.

Within the Configuration and Layout section, the Configuration Manager is responsible for the layout and configuration management of one (or more) of the CERN accelerators, guaranteeing the traceability of the equipment changes and the coherence between the different databases and engineering tools.

Main responsibilities:

[1] The configuration (CERN layout) database of different accelerators at CERN ensuring quality and updating information.

[2] Evaluating requests for technical changes, interacting with different stakeholders of the projects and equipment owners to provide required justification and documentation for formal review and approval.

[3] Ensuring conformity of the actual modifications with the approved documents.

[4] Ensuring accuracy and consistency of the Facility Breakdown Structure in the Document Management System (EDMS).

[5] Verifying and updating documentation of electrical circuits and mechanical drawings in collaboration with the concerned groups.

[6] Checking that naming conventions and quality assurance rules are defined and applied to every item installed and contributing to the review of the naming conventions used in CERN accelerators.

[7] As a member of the configuration team of the Accelerator & Technology Sector, reviewing the processes and tools used for accelerators configuration at CERN and participating in their sustainability.

Qualifications:

[1] Bachelor's degree, or equivalent relevant experience in the fields of mechanical or electromechanical engineering, or a related field.

[2] Initial experience in configuration management or project management.

[3] Experience in using CAD software (Autocad or Catia V5).

[4] Experience performing SQL database queries would be an asset.

[5] Technical competencies which include:

• Configuration and use of information management systems.
• Organisation, planning, and control.
• Project management.
• Production of 2D drawings and 3D models: in particular the use of CAD software, such as Autocad and/or CATIAv5, SmarTeam.

[6] Behavioural competencies which include:

• Communicating effectively.
• Building relationships.
• Demonstrating accountability.
• Demonstrating flexibility.

[7] Language skills:

• English: spoken and written, with the ability to draw up technical specifications and make oral presentations.
• French: the ability to understand and speak French in standard and/or routine situations.
• Contract type: Limited duration contract (5 years). Subject to certain conditions, holders of limited-duration contracts may apply for an indefinite position.
