FAO offers a job opportunity as a national security assistant. The post is located at FAO representation in Iraq and provides support for FAO programs and activities within the designated area of responsibility (AoR). Under the overall supervision of the FAO representative, as well as under the technical supervision of the international security specialist in Baghdad, the regional security advisor at RNE, and the Security Services (CSLS) at Headquarters. The local security assistant will contribute to the safety and security of all FAO staff, assets, programs, and projects in the AoR.
Eligibility:
You must have:
- University degree in any related field.
- At least 5 years’ working experience in the field of security with the UN, NGO or private business or with the police/fire department, mine clearance organization, armed forces, or private security company.
- Working knowledge (spoken and written) of English, Arabic.
- Ability to operate effectively under pressure, rapidly perform situational assessments, and respond quickly and effectively as required.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Possess computer skills with a good working knowledge of database creation, PowerPoint production, word processing & spreadsheet applications.
- Prove participation in one or more of the following advanced courses; First Aid, Mine Awareness, Defensive Driving, Self Defence, Fire Fighting, Hostage Survival, and/or Anti-hijacking measures.
- Organized, and able to work independently and for long hours (sometimes unscheduled).
- Excellent communications skills, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to carry out several tasks in a timely fashion and under tight deadlines with minimum supervision.
- FAO does not charge a fee at any stage of the recruitment process (application, interview meeting, processing).
- Courtesy, tact, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Your Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for:
- Follow up daily security measures of the out movement of staff and visitors specifically to the EU action.
- Assist in communicating with UNDSS for tracking security and threats in the field.
- Help ensure that the safety & security of FAO personnel is the core component of all programs in the country.
- Help in monitoring the security conditions of the offices, stores, and other storage areas.
- Keep a daily record of in and out the movement of staff and visitors.
- Cooperate and helps the security staff of areas associated with the EU action.
- Arrange and collects information regarding security agents in the region.
- Assist the project team when visiting the field, communicating clearly on possible threats, keeping staff safe.
- Train & re-train staff in the use and procedures of VHF and Satellite Communications equipment.
- Assist the security officer in the country in completing all security-related correspondence.
- Maintain information filling system for both hard copy and electronic correspondence, both incoming and outgoing.
- Maintain a secure on-line security filling system, reporting and filling in the safety and security incidents.
- Participate in regular & frequent self-upgrading courses to maintain a strong capacity to instruct and implement the SRM (UNDSS Security Risk Management) system.
- Assist in the supervision and monitoring of the armed/non-armed guards.
- Liaise with the local security authorities regarding the safeguarding of FAO offices and personnel in Basra and south regions.
- Perform any other administrative and security functions as required.
