FAO offers a job opportunity as a specialist in Agri-Food systems science and innovation. You will work under the overall guidance of the chief scientist, and direct technical supervision of the senior advisor in the office of chief scientist, and in close collaboration with the technical advisor in the office of the chief scientist. You will support DDCC in its role to enhance FAO’s ability to use Science and Innovation (S&I) in catalyzing the transition to sustainable, inclusive and resilient food systems, through the provision of expertise in relevant technical areas.
Eligibility:
You must have:
- Advanced university degree in agricultural sciences or related fields as appropriate.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in providing intellectual and strategic leadership on science, technology and innovation issues in food and agricultural systems.
- Working knowledge of English, French, Spanish or Chinese and limited knowledge of one of the other three or Arabic, Russian.
- Working experience in S&I assessment, strategies formulation, and evaluation experiences.
- Depth knowledge regarding trends, opportunities and challenges in the field of S&I for food and agriculture, and achievement of the sustainable development goals, particularly in the context of low and middle-income countries.
- Extent and relevant of experience in dealing with inter-governmental bodies, multi-disciplinary teams, and with international agricultural research and innovation organizations.
- Proven ability in conceptualizing and developing high-quality technical and analytical work related to S&I in food and agriculture.
- Demonstrated capacity to write technical reports, papers and briefs in English.
- Extent and relevant of experience in organizing international conferences, meetings and seminars.

Your Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for:
- Support DDCC endeavors and activities by providing operational and analytical support on S&I in food and agriculture.
- Advise DDCC on the application of innovative approaches in program and project management.
- Provide support to DDCC to leverage and scale-up S&I across the organization and in support of countries for better results.
- Contribute to the planning, organization and implementation of capacity development efforts in relation to mainstreaming S&I in the work of the organization.
- Provide technical expertise in identifying tools and developing methodologies linked to S&I engagement.
- Participate on multi-disciplinary teams, and collaborate with other divisions/offices/centers/regions on working groups in relation to S&I.
- Support production of technical documents (concept notes, technical papers, reports, etc.).
- Support to promoting knowledge sharing and best practices in relation to S&I in food and agriculture.
- Perform any other related task as required.
