Opportunity description
The Data Center at Google is looking for a motivated Technician to join the team in Virginia in the USA, and work on operating, monitoring and supporting physical conditions of facilities. The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems, so the technician will be in charge of helping maintain a safe environment for the system.
Responsibilities:
- Heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems
- Helping inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components
- Providing daily assistance to technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order
- Developing creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency
- Ensuring that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly in emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures
- Owning the maintenance of water pumps and treatment systems, HVAC, UPS, generators, electrical distribution, and control and monitoring systems
- Responding to data center performance issues and outage
Minimum qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an Associate's degree program, trade school certification or other verifiable training in a relevant technical field (CMCO, SMT, etc.)
- Experience with Mechanical/Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), and/or electrical
- Ability to work non-standard hours and differing work rotations/shifts (including working on holidays and shift rotations), lift and move 50 lbs of equipment, work on platforms, ladders and under raised floors
Preferred qualifications:
- Universal Refrigerant Handler's certification
- Experience at Apprenticeship or Technician level in a critical environment
- Ability to learn quickly and address issues as they arise during normal working hours or when on-call
