Roya TV is looking for an English Editor who has a passion for staying up-to-the-minute with breaking and trending news, a creative flair for finding quirky angles to local news leads, and a journalist’s drive to publish news and human interest articles from the Arabic side on the English counterpart website.The editor also has the opportunity to write and byline original content as agreed by the Editor in Chief. English Editors report to the English Team Chief and the Arabic Head of News and work in a fast-paced, but fun, newsroom that reflects the high-quality and fresh content offered on the website.
Responsibilities:
[1] Finding (through verified and inhouse channels) and publishing news stories throughout their shift.
[2] Re-writing, (translating), reworking, and posting news content to create appropriately attributed Roya English articles.
[3] Researching and writing original content for publishing on the Roya English website, as assigned or agreed by the Team Chief.
[4] Ensuring that published content meets Roya English editorial standards.
[5] Supporting editorial decisions with researched suggestions and robust debate.
[6] Contributing to headlines with sound judgment and a creative flair.
[7] Coordinating with English team staff for content and shift schedules.
[8] Liaising with the Arabic news staff on articles.
[9] Adapting to any task as requested by the Team Chief, Senior Editors or Arabic Head of News.
Requirements:
[1] Have a passion for staying up-to-the-minute with breaking and trending news.
[2] Be conversant in Middle Eastern political and current affairs.
[3] Have sound judgment regarding what is and is not news and the instinct to pursue reporting further when there may be more to the story.
[4] Have the ability to write provocative, modern-minded, but balanced, pieces that reflect an awareness of home culture where need be.
[5] Have a creative flair for writing.
[6] Speak and write English with native proficiency.
[7] Be a team player and a strong, diplomatic communicator.
[8] Be based in Amman, Jordan.
[9] Be available for night and weekend shifts.
[10] If a working visa is required, commit to a year’s tenure.
