Today there is a growing need for journalists and computer scientists to work closely together, as digital technology continues to transform how journalists tell stories and engage with audiences. This is something we take very seriously at 7iber as we strive to produce high quality, in-depth multimedia storytelling and data-driven journalism. At 7iber, technology and web development are not something we outsource, but are an integral part of our everyday operations.
7iber is looking for a senior Full-Stack Developer to join 7iber’s team on a part-time basis (20-25 hours per week) and work with the journalists and editors on building new storytelling and data visualization tools, and on enhancing 7iber’s website for an optimal user experience.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop user interfaces for our WordPress website which improve the way our audiences consume stories and articles.
- Work with 7iber’s designer and editorial team on designing and building templates and tools for interactive multimedia journalism and data visualizations.
- Constantly monitor and improve the website’s performance and SEO.
Qualifications:
- Ideally three to five years of experience.
- Self learner (you’ll be the only developer working with a designer and a team of journalists and editors).
- Ability to work in LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP).
- Experience in working with WordPress themes and plugin structure.
- Ability to work with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Ability to work with JSON and REST API environment.
- Interest in data science (knowledge of Python and D3 is a plus but not a requirement as long as you are able to self-learn).
- Understanding of UX/UI concerns is a plus.
- Flexibility and ability to work well within a team and under tight deadlines.

7iber is a media organization and online magazine that seeks to promote an open society that upholds values of accountability, rule of law, human rights, and pluralism, through in-depth multimedia journalism, critical analysis and public conversation. In addition to media production and public events, 7iber organizes and leads training workshops on various aspects of writing, multimedia journalism, and digital security. We also conduct research and provide a range of consulting and production services.
7iber began in 2007 as a citizen media platform with the initial costs of the website covered by its founding members. Since 2009, 7iber has grown into a media organization that is a registered LLC in Jordan and financed primarily through grants and media projects.
