Opportunity description

Amazon is offering a job opportunity, as it's looking for Service Reliability Engineer to join its AWS team in Vancouver, Canada. The AWS Commerce Platform team is focused on the most interesting and challenging problems lying at the intersection of cloud computing and e-commerce. 

These include:

  1. Enabling developers and software companies to easily distribute, and make money from, their cloud-based products; 
  2. Enabling consumers of cloud-based software to evaluate, buy, and 1-click deploy even the most complicated cloud architectures;
  3. Modeling the new ways that software is sold and consumed in a cloud environment; 
  4. Interpreting and processing the very high volume stream of events (e.g. trillions per day) that underlies enabling e-commerce for the cloud.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or relevant work experience.
  2. 3+ years of Linux experience.
  3. 3+ years of technical support or development experience.
  4. 1+ year experience running and maintaining a 24x7 production environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. 1+ year experience with one or more scripting/programming languages such as Python, Perl, Ruby.
  2. Experience with automation.
  3. Exposure to security concepts/best practices.
  4. Knowledge of SDLC.
  5. Knowledge of DB concepts and architecture.
  6. Experience with support procedures and methodologies for production computing environments.
  7. Experience supporting service-oriented architecture and web services.
  8. Proficiency in SQL.
  9. Ability to learn new software quickly.
  10. Impeccable customer service focus with a demonstrated desire to exceed expectations – a team player with a solid work ethic.
  11. Familiarity with distributed systems and the management of such systems.
  12. Ability to dive deep into complex technical problems.
  13. A solid grasp of networking fundamentals and practical experience across the networking stack.
  14. Strong customer focus, ownership, and urgency.
  15. Excellent oral and written communication skills to work effectively with others regardless of departmental or geographic boundaries.
  16. Experience developing and presenting recommendations to peers and management.
  17. Good organization skills to produce quality work, within required specifications, and within scheduled timelines.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Work with Amazon internal business partners (AR, Accounting, Operations, Customer Service, etc.) to identify and resolve customer issues within AWS Payments space. 
  2. Assist the team to understand Amazon's business using his/her analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  3. Implement process improvement initiatives to reduce operational burden.
