Opportunity description
USIP (United States Institute of Peace) is looking to recruit a program officer to join the team in Iraq. The Program Officer leads the development and planning, implementation, financial management, and public outreach for the Preventing Radicalization to Violence through Women and Youth Integration (PRV-W) project. This position reports to the Iraq Country Manager.
Major Duties:
- Development, Planning, and Implementation:
- Leads the implementation of the PRV-W project, and any necessary reviews or further development of the project’s goals, objectives, operating plan, budget, etc.
- Manages the day-to-day and planning operations of the project.
- Manages relationships with key external partners regarding project coordination and execution.
- Monitors and evaluates project activities to meet program goals and objectives.
- Produces project reports, presentations, and other written documents for internal and external stakeholders.
- Works with and provides regular project and contextual updates to the relevant program team members in country, regional, and headquarters offices.
- Provides technical support to staff and partners involved in the implementation of the project.
- Financial Management:
- Manages the PRV-W budget to ensure that the project is operating within its budget limitations in order to meet its goals and objectives.
- Public Outreach:
- Builds strategic partnerships and cultivates contacts with subject matter experts and a wide variety of external organizations to leverage resources and combine efforts to promote USIP program initiatives and goals.
- With approval from supervisor, attends and participates in various conferences, events, and other programs to speak on behalf of USIP on specific subject matter area of expertise.
- Provides briefings to government and non-government organizations on key subject matter area.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Masters in international relations, education, or related field required.
- 3-5 years of experience in project management.
- Prior experience with gender-based programming, fostering community initiatives, or dialogue processes is strongly desired.
- Professional fluency in English language is required. Knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
- Experience working in the MENA region.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills and knowledge in subject areas.
- Program and financial management proficiency.
- Strong organizational style and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong coordination, communication, and collaboration skills.
