Opportunity description

One Acre Fund is looking for a Government Relations Analyst to join their team in order to manage and improve national government relations while supporting policy and partnerships work in Bujumbura. As Working closely with the global government relations team and in-country external relations division, One Acre Fund works closely with local and national governments. Their principal focus is the Ministry of Agriculture in countries where they operate, but they also pay close attention to other actors in the agricultural sector.

Responsibilities:

[1] Building out and maintaining relationships with key agricultural sector actors such as the Ministry of Agriculture, local government, regulators, research institutions, and donors.

[2] Directly supervising a team of five government relations staff working at local and national levels.

[3] Delivering professional development training and mentoring for the team to take on new stretch projects and an increasingly complex portfolio of relationships.

[4] Regulating communications with Burundi field and innovations teams to prioritize issues for troubleshooting and allocate time on risk mitigation.

[5] Supporting geographic expansion of One Acre Fund's core program into new districts by securing early approval from relevant authorities.

[6] Overseeing the creation and execution of Government Relations strategies at local and national levels, chart progress against objectives and key results, and report progress to country and global team leads.

[7] Managing relationships with the highest level political and executive contacts who can support One Acre Fund's future growth, help de-risk program activities, and strategically grow contacts network.

[8] Developing internal understanding of Burundi's political landscape by working with allies and advisors who can identify high level strategic targets One Acre Fund may want to build relationships with.

[9] Overseeing quarterly reports, field visits, and outreach; represent One Acre Fund in high-level stakeholder meetings, and be a point of contact for external stakeholders.

[10] Interpreting and explaining policies and laws applicable to trials and field operations, advise on future changes, and maintain licenses, permits, and MoUs.

Qualifications:

[1] Strong work experiences. Examples include a demanding professional work experience, or successful entrepreneurial experience, e.g. starting a field program, leading a conference, starting a business, etc.

[2] Relationship-building and communications skills: We are looking for someone who is able to strike an appropriate balance between humilitiy and confidence, speak intelligently about our program, and systematically manage relationships.

[3] Experience working with the public sector: This might include government institutions, research bodies or other public bodies with a focus on agriculture and rural development in Africa.

[4] Ability to operate autonomously and be a self-starter: A highly organized and disciplined, solution-oriented and creative individual is required as this role mostly involves remote working.

[5] Languages: Fluent in French. Professional compentency in English. Kirundi speakers are particularly encouraged to apply.
