Opportunity description

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is offering a job opportunity in Amman, Jordan as a SWM Coordinator– Jordan Municipal Support Project (JMSP). Under the supervision of the SWM specialist, the Coordinator will provide support to the implementation and coordination of SWM component of the JMSP. He/she will assist the SWM specialist in planning, implementation, researching, monitoring and evaluating of SWM activities in each of the 12 targeted municipalities and with the Ministry of Local Administration.  

Duration:

Until 2022 with possibility of extension till 2023 based on availability of funds.

Duties & responsibilities

Technical: 

  1. Develop clear understanding of the JMSP project and become well acquainted with the SWM component, its objectives, main plans and updates of the work performed so far;  
  2. Under the supervision of the SWM Specialist, review current SWM status and practices in the 12 targeted municipalities to create clear understanding of their context and constraints;
  3. Under the supervision of the SWM Specialist, develop weekly plans to assist the SWM specialist in the implementation of individual activities related SWM in each field and ensures compliance with plans and regulations and work/coordinate closely with the Initiatives Specialist on the development, design and implementation of the initiatives;  
  4. Provide regular follow up and support to the efficient implementation of SWM activities in the field; 
  5. Provide regular feedback and reports to the SWM Specialists on the progress of the work and challenges that may be encountered and provide recommendations, as needed;  
  6. Provide administrative and operation support in the implementation of SWM related activities; 
  7. Assist in developing and elaborating SWM related Terms of Reference;  
  8. Follow-up and coordinate, on a daily basis, with municipalities, the field team and JMSP technical leads to assure smooth implementation of administrative and operational activities of the SWM component and on behavioural change related activities;  
  9. Provide logistical support for workshops, meetings, and other activities as tasked by the SWM specialist.  

Procurement:

  1. Respond to procurement requests related to supplies, materials and equipment for JMSP
  2. SWM project activities and initiatives.  
  3. Ensure that procurement is carried out in accordance with JMSP and GAC policies and procedures.  
  4. In coordination with JMSP operational team and the Initiatives Specialist, generate required procurement documentation and maintain records and files in a systematized manner.  
  5. Keep good track of suppliers’ performance and maintain a vendors’ database for different categories of supplies, services and goods. 

Eligibility criteria

  1. Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, solid waste management, civil engineering, or any other related field;  
  2. 2 year of experience in environmental or SWM projects;  
  3. Excellent analytical skills;  
  4. Knowledge in the SWM sector in Jordan;  
  5. Knowledge in MS office.  
  6. Strong communications skills.  
  7. Fluency in English and Arabic language.
