Opportunity description

United Nations offers internship opportunities in four broad areas; Administration, Data analytics, Project support, and Communications. These positions are located in the Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM) in the Department of Operational Support (DOS). This internship will give you the chance to learn better about the United Nations overall.

Duties & responsibilities

As an intern, you will work as a full member of the team, pursue projects that are designed to make a significant difference in OSCM, you will be responsible for:

  • In Executive and Management Support Area:
  • Support the preparation of senior-level meetings, conferences, and engagements.
  • Prepare research, analysis, and policy options for improved operational support.
  • Attend meetings with UN committees, and coordinate follow-up to decisions.
  • Assist in speech writing, messaging, preparation of reports and background documents.
  • In Analytics and Business Intelligence Area:
  • Help to analyze the performance across functions.
  • Support the analytics teams in preparing data, data models, and surveys.
  • Develop dashboards for senior managers and provide user support.
  • Support data mining, optimization, metrics development, and predictive analysis.
  • In Strategic and Project Support Area:
  • Help to analyze the performance across functional areas, including supply chain, planning and operational support, and administrative support.
  • Support work on priority projects.
  • Support design, drafting, and implementing strategic priorities.
  • In Communications and Design Area:
  • Design core identity products that illustrate corporate vision, mission, and values.
  • Support the development of websites, including layout, content, and look.
  • Provide design support across a range of print and online products.

Eligibility criteria

You must have:

  • Communication skills.
  • Planning and Organizing skills.
  • Technological Awareness skills.
  • You must meet one of the following requirements:
  • be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • have graduated with a university degree.
  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. 
  • Fluency in English.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
  • Area 1: Executive and Management Support
  • Have relevant coursework in International Relations, Global Affairs, Management, Economics, Public Affairs, or Public/Business Administration.
  • Good writing, and attention to detail.
  • Area 2: Analytics and Business Intelligence
  • Have relevant coursework in Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Mathematics, or Analytics.
  • Area 3: Strategic and Project Support
  • Have relevant coursework in Business Administration, Management, Strategy Development, Project Management, Operations Research, or Public Administration.
  • Draws on conceptualization, PowerPoint, and project management skills.
  • Area 4: Communications and Design
  • Have relevant coursework in Design, Web Development, Strategic Design and Management, Marketing, Public Relations, Media Studies, or Journalism.
  • Some experience with graphic design, working with the Adobe Creative Suite and/or experience in building websites.
