UNICEF is announcing a 3-month internship opportunity for Jordanian nationals in the field of Communications and Advocacy at its Jordan office. Under the supervision of the Communications Officer (Media and Advocacy), you will support the Media and Advocacy team in strengthening UNICEF's external communication and visibility. This includes drafting and editing press releases, media features, and opinion pieces that help raise UNICEF's profile in the media. You will also assist in planning and executing advocacy and visibility events in close coordination with program colleagues, including preparing talking points, briefing reports, concept notes, and post-event reports. You will also compile and write content that showcases the impact of UNICEF's work in supporting donor engagement and external communication.

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Strengthening UNICEF Jordan's external communications and public advocacy efforts through supporting and developing engaging content, media engagement, and various outreach activities.
  • You will contribute to strengthening UNICEF's voice and influence on issues affecting children and young people in Jordan.
  • Strengthening organizational capacity to engage the media and public on child rights issues.
  • You will support systems and tools that improve how UNICEF Jordan communicates with journalists, donors, partners, and the public, including media lists, story development, and advocacy events.
  • Providing valuable learning opportunities for young professionals in development communication. The internship aims to nurture future communication and advocacy professionals by providing practical experience in a dynamic UN environment, while gaining expertise in strategic planning, content creation, and media relations. Specific tasks and activities during your internship include, but are not limited to:
    • Writing stories and articles that highlight the impact of UNICEF's programs on children, young people, and their families, particularly around key advocacy and public relations events. Support research and development of communications products that demonstrate program impact.
    • Assist in planning and organizing events in collaboration with the communications team, program colleagues, and external partners.
    • Support the implementation of the media engagement plan, including tracking progress, coordinating communications, and supporting media relations.
    • Coordinate closely with the Support Officer, program departments, and senior management to ensure alignment and consistency with the overall support strategy and work plans for the office.
    • Ensure that all communications outputs follow UNICEF's communication guidelines, corporate branding standards, and core values.
    • Strengthen the internal communication support process.

About UNICEF:

The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund was created by the United Nations General Assembly on 11 December 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated by World War II. The Polish physician Ludwik Rajchman is widely regarded as the founder of UNICEF and served as its first chairman from 1946. Most of UNICEF's work is in the field, with a presence in 190 countries and territories. UNICEF's network of over 150 country offices, headquarters, and other offices, and 34 National Committees carry out UNICEF's mission through programs developed with host governments. Seven regional offices provide technical assistance to country offices as needed.
