Opportunity description
Microsoft is announcing a job opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer on the Azure Customer Team in the United States. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and deploying software to enable hardware-based storage offloading technologies. This position is suitable for you if you are passionate about working on new hardware and software solutions to enhance performance and scalability at the highest levels.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Designing and developing software to manage Azure storage services.
- Rapidly deploying cloud solutions and monitoring status through telemetry.
- Ensuring quality in everything you do and continuously improving the quality of the systems you operate.
- Acting as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and mentoring other engineers by developing and following an operational manual. Working on-call to monitor the system/product/service for deterioration, downtime, or outages, alerting stakeholders of the status, and initiating system/product/service recovery procedures for simple and complex issues when needed.
- Proactively seeking out new knowledge and adapting to new technology trends, solutions, and patterns that will improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, traceability, and performance, while promoting consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
- Embodying the company's culture and values.

Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field, and at least 4 years of experience in technical engineering and programming in various languages, including, but not limited to, C, C++, RUST, or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Windows drivers or storage.
- Meet security screening requirements from Microsoft, customers, and government agencies. These requirements include, but are not limited to, a Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer, and every two years thereafter.
Preferred:
- A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field, with at least 8 years of experience in technical engineering programming in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, RUST, or Python.
- Or a master's degree in computer science or a related technical field, with at least 6 years of experience in technical engineering programming in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, RUST, or equivalent experience.
- One or more years of working knowledge of storage interfaces and protocols, such as NVMe and SCSI.
- One or more years of experience with virtualization technologies.
- One or more years of experience developing and debugging kernel-mode applications (Windows or Linux drivers).
- One or more years of experience with Azure-equivalent cloud services—data explorer, portal, disks, storage, and virtual machines.
- Experience in providing and maintaining highly reliable cloud storage services.
- IC4 Software Engineering.
