Opportunity description
Disney is hiring for a Software Engineer in its Core Software division in Canada. The company is seeking a Software Engineer to join its Production Technology team, which will focus on software development across multiple areas, from core libraries to user interfaces. In this position, you will collaborate with artists, production and technology leads, art directors, software engineers across various teams, and other technologists and researchers at The Walt Disney Studios. You will support, design, and implement innovative workflows and cutting-edge solutions, inspired by the company's new, long-term vision for Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Designing and implementing a core infrastructure for managing various definitions, environments, and assets.
- Building new APIs that enable data management tools and artist interfaces to more easily access footage content.
- Expanding and improving the core libraries used to author content for end users.
- Creating user interfaces and tools for artists and art directors to author, edit, access, and inspect footage and assets.
- Working on a full suite of tools, from developing core algorithms to building intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for artists.
- Working closely with artists and a team of cross-site developers to create the tools the organization needs for the complex characters/environments featured in its content.
- Developing new artist-centric interaction models using the latest hardware and technologies.

Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- The ability to focus on writing effective solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- The ability to collaborate with team members from diverse disciplines, including direct communication with stakeholders to understand their requirements.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to balance the speed of solution delivery with sustainability.
- The ability to collaborate with the team and lead to prioritize overlapping requirements based on business value.
- Proficiency in modern C++ (C++11/14/17/20+) and/or Rust.
- Experience in systems programming in a Linux environment.
- The ability to independently create simple, testable, and robust code.
- At least 3 years of experience in designing and developing interactive tools.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred:
- Understanding of basic concepts and algorithms in computer graphics.
- Knowledge of animation, graphics techniques, and algorithms.
- Experience building interfaces using the Qt UI toolkit.
- Experience in the OpenUSD ecosystem.
- Experience in scripting languages such as Python.
- Strong mathematical foundations, including linear algebra and numerical methods.
- A strong understanding of coding processes, standards, continuous integration, and testing principles.
- A Master's degree in Computer Science.
- The base salary offered for this position in Canada ranges from $92,742 to $124,410 per year. The base salary is determined based on internal benefits and may vary based on the candidate's geographic location, work experience, skills, experience, and other factors. The company may offer a full range of medical and financial benefits, and/or other variable salary or benefits, depending on the level and position offered.
