The International Rescue Committee offers a job opportunity as an Integrated Protection Coordinator in Iraq. You will lead IRC efforts to meet the safety and protection needs of people affected by conflict, reduce risk and respond to situations of violence, coercion and deprivation, as well as mainstream protection throughout IRC, this includes providing protection, reducing gender-based violence and managing child protection issues Organized and unorganized psychosocial support, legal awareness, protection mainstreaming and training, women empowerment activities, child protection committees, women's committees and other awareness activities.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Provide strategic direction, leadership, and comprehensive technical and administrative support for protection, rule of law, and women’s and child protection programs in northeastern Syria.
- Lead the overall assessment of opportunities for greater cross-sector integration within IRC program units, and develop/revise the action plan to reach integration goals, both with respect to programs implemented directly by IRC as well as those delivered in partnerships.
- Promote joint work across the three teams (CP, WPE and PRoL) to improve programming quality and provide a holistic approach to meeting the needs of family members.
- Ensure the smooth management, implementation, integration and compliance of project work plans and budgets (budget forecasting, spending plans, procurement plans and expenditures), with the best use of resources across activities and delivery on time, scope and within budget, in collaboration with Program, Finance, Human Resources and Supply Chain departments.
- Ensure high technical quality of projects and activities, meet humanitarian standards, align with the IRC's Results and Evidence.
- Framework, and respond to community feedback and monitoring.
- Ensure that all internal and external reporting requirements are met, and that reports are of high quality and submitted on time.
- Proactively identify, evaluate, monitor and implement measures to reduce or control risks that may affect program implementation, quality or compliance.
- Ensure alignment and coherence with IRC's country, regional and global strategy and local economic health and welfare programs.
- Liaise with Technical Unit advisors to ensure that relevant support, tools and resources are provided and integrated into programs.
- Work closely with IRC's advocacy and media teams, and the Violence Prevention and Response Technical Unit to release and disseminate research reports and findings.
- Identify, monitor and report unmet needs. Explore the IRC's capabilities to meet those needs within the parameters of the Strategic Action Plan and sector priorities.
- Staff management and development.
- Coaching and mentoring employees with the aim of enhancing their technical capabilities, sharing knowledge within the team and providing them with professional development guidance.
- Provide constructive feedback and advice on appropriate career paths and professional development.
- Support the development of business development skills and responsibility among the Integrated Protection team, with a particular focus on national staff.
- Promote and monitor staff care and well-being.
- Approve and manage all leave requests to ensure adequate coverage at work.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Bachelor's degree in humanitarian aid, social work, human rights, international law, social sciences, or any related field, preferably with an advanced degree.
- 5 years of experience implementing similar programs in complex emergency situations or contexts and a clear understanding of the importance of international humanitarian law and human rights law for humanitarian action.
- Professional experience implementing programs in the field of protection or human rights in conflict-affected areas.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to child protection, women's protection and empowerment.
- Practical case management experience.
- Leadership personality and strong administrative, organizational and developmental skills.
- Strong program and budget management skills including planning and reporting across multiple grants.
- Teamwork skills, comfort in working in a multicultural environment, flexibility and ability to deal with pressure effectively and productively.
- Proficiency in writing and speaking skills in English. Knowledge of Arabic and/or Kurdish is preferred.
- Your work will be based in Al-Hasakeh, in northeastern Syria with regular travel to WFP field sites in areas of operations inside Syria, as well as travel to Erbil, KRI, and other regional hubs for coordination as needed. Al-Hasakeh is currently considered an environment of medium security risk. Shared accommodation will be provided at field sites or IRC approved hotels where security risks are moderate.
