Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard university is accepting applications for Preceptor in American Sign Language vacancy in Boston, Cambridge, Massachusetts, MA, Northeast, New England.
Duties & responsibilities
Position Description: preceptor in American Sign Language (ASL). The appointment is expected to begin July 1, 2023 or January 1, 2024 (with a preference for July 1, 2023). The preceptor will be responsible for instruction of beginning and intermediate courses in ASL, as well as potentially advanced courses in ASL, Deaf history, literature, and/or sign language linguistics, depending on student interest and instructor expertise. The preceptor will also be responsible for working with the existing ASL instructional team on curriculum design and supporting the ASL program on campus. This is a new position in order to expand our course offerings in ASL.
The position is for three years, renewable for a term of up to five years, contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean authorization.
Eligibility criteria
The successful applicant should have fluency in ASL and knowledge of Deaf culture, as well as at least two years of prior experience teaching ASL at the university level.
Additional Qualifications:
A Masters degree or higher in a related field, proficiency/knowledge of other sign languages in addition to ASL, and lived experience with Deafness would all be considered highly valuable for someone with this position.
