The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is offering a Job Opportunity in Syria: Protection and Rule of Law Officer.
Duties & responsibilities
- Ensure that all Protection activities are in line with the project strategy and design.
- Ensure the technical quality of Protection programming and timely delivery of protection services.
- Supervise staff and foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
- Provide technical guidance, oversight and support to Protection interventions.
- Oversee the implementation of Integrated Protection emergency activities in area(s) of responsibility and ensure the program is implemented according to schedule and budgets, international standards.
- Ensure ethical data collection and information management systems are in place and functional.
- Ensure that protection activities meet stated objectives within the project timeframe.
- Ensure regular coordination with the Protection Coordinator and/or PRoL Technical Unit.
- Ensure effective communication with other service providers and IRC sectors.
- Maintain open and professional relations with Protection staff, providing oversight and guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their positions.
- Directly supervise Two Emergency Response officers and one Case Management Supervisor.
- Assist with the recruitment of Protection staff, in coordination with the HR team, senior Protection management.
- Ensure timely completion and submission of monthly timesheets, probation reviews and annual performance reviews.
- Ensure ongoing training, support and capacity building opportunities for Protection staff in designated area(s).
- Responsible for the overall achievement of project goals.
- Support implementation and ensure adherence to grant work plans, spending plans, procurement plans as well as monitoring and evaluation plans.
- Ensure high quality IRC and donor reporting of activities, indicators and achievements.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders including government actors, UN agencies, local and international NGOs and other relevant actors.
- Represent IRC in Protection related coordination forums and activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs.
Eligibility criteria
Required Education and Experience:
- At least two years of progressively responsible professional experience in a managerial position.
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in the fields of humanities, social sciences, or another related field, or training certificates.
- Previous experience in an emergency or conflict-afflicted setting is required.
- Familiarity with protection issues affecting the internally displaced population.
- Experience working with vulnerable individuals and displaced populations.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and the safety of beneficiaries at all times.
- Possess high interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a team spirit, as well as independently.
- Possess strong supervisory and organizational skills.
- Possess a high team spirit and comfort in working in a multicultural environment.

Language Skills:
- Arabic is required, while English is desired.
