United Nations is offering a job opportunity in USA as an Administrative Officer.

Duties & responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Secretary and Deputy Executive Secretary and within limits of delegated authority, the Administrative Officer will be responsible for the following:

  • HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
  • Effectively coordinates actions relative to the administration of human resource activities, e. g., recruitment, placement, promotion, performance appraisal, job classification reviews, separation of staff members, training etc., ensuring consistency in the application of UN rules and procedures.
  • BUDGET AND FINANCE
  • Supports the preparation and implementation of the work programme, ensuring that financial resources are utilised to implement activities in accordance with the Programme Budget and allotments issued.
  • Defines requirements and work with systems units with respect to improving budget reporting systems and cost effective utilisation of program resources.
  • Supervises and/or provides guidance on financial administration and management information issues and practices to colleagues.
  • GENERAL ADMINISTRATION
  • Attends meetings of the ACABQ and drafts reports of the Committee setting forth its observations, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Prepares various written outputs, e.g. reports of the Committee setting forth its observations, conclusions and recommendations, background papers, analysis, substantial sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.;
  • Oversees work related to procurement, billing and receipt of income from various services, operational travel programme, procurement monitoring and evaluation of vendor contracts/payment to vendors and individual contractors for services.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Eligibility criteria

  1. Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, finance, accounting, law or related area is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  2. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in administration, finance, accounting, human resources management or related field is required.
  3. Experience in drafting intergovernmental reports in English, preferably on administrative and budgetary issues, is required.
  4. Experience in the financial regulations, rules and administrative procedures of the United Nations or other international organizations is desirable.
  5. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
