Abt Associates offers a job opportunity in Jordan as a Gender Specialist. Abt Associates seeks a qualified Gender Specialist for the Local Health System Sustainability Project’s Jordan Activity (LHSS Jordan). The LHSS Project is USAID’s flagship initiative in integrated health systems strengthening, with a goal to help low- and middle-income countries transition to sustainable, self-financed health systems to support universal health coverage. LHSS Jordan is supporting the Government of Jordan’s (GOJ) efforts to improve healthcare professionals’ competencies to deliver quality health services.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Integrate gender into LHSS Jordan operations and programmatic activities, and training activities.
- Design and execute gender training for LHSS staff, grantees, and partners.
- Support the MOH and private sector to adopt policies and training that address the needs of women and men health workers, including increased leadership opportunities and the mitigation of workplace violence and harassment.
- Working with the grants manager, manage a grant activity that will conduct a Gender audit for the MOH.
- Provide technical oversight to the grantee, reviewing all deliverables to ensure they are of quality, are within the grant agreement, and are in alignment with the Ministry of Health’s requirements.
- Work with the grants and procurement team, and provide oversight on the LHSS grant and subgrant portfolio to ensure that gender considerations are integrated into all grant and subcontract activities and plans.
- Work with the continuous professional development team, including importantly the information and technology senior advisor, to ensure gender considerations are built into the CPD system, including within the MOH and the three health councils’ platforms.
- Maintain all files in the LHSS shared drive related to activities.
- Contribute to LHSS/Jordan MEL activities including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Any other tasks are relevant as assigned by the supervisor.

Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Science or any related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years experience in gender programming.
- Previous experience at USAID-funded programs is preferred.
- Strong English writing/speaking skills are required and fluency in Arabic is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and training skills.
It's preferred to have:
- Bachelor’s Degree + 9 years of relevant experience, or master’s degree + 7 years of relevant experience, or Ph.D. + 4 years of relevant experience.
