UNICEF offers a job opportunity in Jordan as a Social Policy Consultant. Under overall guidance from the Chief of Social Policy and direct supervision from the Social Policy Specialist, you will assist the section in implementing a set of policy advocacy and knowledge management initiatives. This includes supporting the implementation of UNICEF social policy priorities in the areas of Policy advocacy and System Strengthening, National Social Protection Policies, and Evidence Generation. In addition, you will contribute to the daily implementation of specific project activities under the joint UNICEF-ILO program “Towards an Inclusive National Social Protection System and Accelerating Decent Job Opportunities for Syrians and Vulnerable Jordanians. The duty station will be in the office of Amman, Jordan.
Duties & responsibilities
You will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of activities under UNICEF-ILO joint programming, and compliance with provisions, guidelines, and reporting requirements.
- Carry out data collection exercises and support with data analysis and report writing activities.
- Contribute to the generation of improved data on the social protection sector and the situation of children, including the development of policy briefs on emerging issues.
- Providing technical review of studies and reports with a specific focus on the following:
- Project on “Building a Shock-Responsiveness Social Protection System for Jordan”.
- Annual Reflection Report on the State of SP Sector in Jordan.
- Review and make sure that progress reports are prepared regularly according to the agreed guidelines and coordinated with input from different units and involved stakeholders.
- Produce timely concept papers, strategic notes, quality briefings, and policy updates related to the social protection sector.
- Perform any other program-related duties requested by the UNICEF team.

Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Education: Advanced university degree or higher in a relevant field such as economics, public policy, applied social sciences, and development studies.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of progressive responsibility and work experience in social protection or related sectors.
- Strong professional writing skills and demonstrated capacity for writing high-level documents, concept papers, and policy notes.
- Strong and demonstrated skills in research (quantitative and qualitative) and data analysis.
- Demonstrated capacity in providing support to planning and implementation of activities, including coordination and event management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required for high-level engagement with government departments and other stakeholders.
- Strong background in Public Economics and Public Finance is considered an asset.
- Experience in data collection and analysis software (STATA/ NVivo) is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in English is required and knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
- Applications submitted without a financial proposal will not be considered, the financial offer should be a lump sum for the whole assignment + Travel.
