GEMS Education offers a job opportunity in the United Arab Emirates as a Librarian. The Foundation is looking for a dynamic candidate to manage the Foundation's School Library who will be responsible for the effective management of the school library, providing books to readers and encouraging the enjoyment of reading, and will also supervise library assistants, students and volunteers when needed.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Helping students find books that are appropriate for their reading level and interests, and helping students and staff to obtain books relevant to their subject of study.
- Arrangements for student borrowing of library books, keeping records of borrowed books, and following up on books not returned.
- Develop reading lists for different age levels.
- Teaching younger students about books and library design.
- Contacting department heads to prepare and arrange the library on an annual basis, including selecting and renewing subscriptions to periodicals.
- Repair and pull out old books.
- Teach volunteers library procedures and operations.
- Maintain, update and make available exam materials (past papers, syllabi, etc.), college materials, and assignments.
- General maintenance of the library to ensure that it is comfortable, well lit, attractive and orderly.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Library Science.
- At least two years of solid, demonstrable experience working in a school
- It is preferred that you have work experience in the United Arab Emirates.
- Ambitious to work in a world class school with real prospects to further your career.
- Excellent IT skills and the ability to work closely with students and the leadership team.
- Creative and enthusiastic approach
