Al Futtaim offers a job opportunity in UAE as a secondary biology teacher. Universal American School (UAS), founded in 2005, is a not-for-profit, PreK Grade 12 American International school governed by the Al-Futtaim Education Foundation, located in the buzzing Dubai Festival City. Nurtured in a community of integrity and academic excellence, It helps its students become compassionate, confident learners who know who they are and what they stand for. Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  1. Demonstrates extensive knowledge of content, AERO standards and IB Program(s), and a wide range of instructional pedagogies.
  2. Applies knowledge of varied approaches to learning in instruction, lesson planning, questioning, and assessment.
  3. Utilizes technology effectively, where appropriate, both in classroom, instruction, and for student assignments to advance the educational process and engage students.
  4. Ensures that all learning objectives are clear and communicated effectively to students.
  5. Demonstrates classroom management and ensures that standards of conduct are clear to all students and appear to have been developed with student participation i.e. A classroom essential agreement.
  6. Creates a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, engaging, student-centered, and inquiry-based.
  7. Documents each student’s progress consistently throughout the course of the year, and efficiently collects evidence of learning and progress.
  8. Provides high quality and regular feedback – both formative and summative – that is an accurate reflection of the student.
  9. Ensures that students have regular opportunities for reflection and self assessment.
  10. Utilizes a variety of internal and external assessments tools to inform instruction.
  11. Demonstrates in planning and preparation coherent instructional design.
  12. Ensures that the classroom contains all items on the learning environment checklist.
  13. Designs learning activities that are differentiated in approach.
  14. Constantly reflects on curriculum resources that meet the AERO priority standards.
  15. Uses student data effectively in planning for teaching and learning.
  16. Works collaboratively to complete a unit planner for every unit of inquiry (UOI)/interdisciplinary unit (IDU) Teacher 2021.
  17. Keeps up-to-date with developments in subject area/s, new research and resources, methods and curriculum objectives.
  18. Provides regular information to parents through the school’s digital communication platforms, as appropriate, about the instructional program, student progress, both academic and developmental.
  19. Meets with parents/guardians regularly (min. 3 times per AY) to discuss the student progress and provide feedback on improvement plans.
  20. Communicates regularly with appropriate school personnel about the student's academic, social, and emotional development, including division leadership and student support services.
  21. Advises and collaborates with the SLT and other teachers in the preparation and development of courses, teaching and learning methodologies, assessment and pastoral care arrangements.
  22. Demonstrates genuine tolerance and respect for individual students and colleagues.
  23. Working collaboratively.
  24. Acts as an active and positive contributor to grade level/department teams and to the entire UAS community.
  25. Abides by policies and procedures outlined in the Staff Handbook and as otherwise provided by the school.
  26. Lives up to the UAS teacher profile standards.
  27. Participates in school events, making a substantive and healthy contribution in some aspect of school life outside of the classroom (i.e. after school activities, coaching, lunch clubs).
  28. Actively seeks out peer learning opportunities and uses professional development to enhance classroom instruction.
  29. Utilizes the resources and expertise of the local and global community to provide experiential and real-life learning opportunities for students.
  30. Attends and participates actively, productively, and enthusiastically in grade level team or departmental decision-making.
  31. Demonstrates a willingness to be a team player, and to participate readily in any other duties, as assigned.
  32. Actively engage the students in inspiring inquiry based, conceptual and constructivist learning, contextualized through experiential learning and real life applications using innovative and balanced approaches to teaching and learning and foster a positive environment for student’s individual growth as well as actively support the school’s mission of being the leading American International school in the region by embracing the school’s vision and values.
  33. Other duties/responsibilities deemed necessary by the school leadership may be added.

Eligibility criteria

You must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or B.Ed. in teaching or PGCE-Postgraduate certificate in education) in education/specific subject area (subject specialization is a requirement for teaching in G6-G12).
  • Minimum two years of teaching experience in an American curriculum school and/or IB school.
  • Proven track-record in effective, student centeric instructional strategies that motivates learners of all kind.
  • Ability to effectively analyze and apply data to inform instructional practices and differentiate learning.
  • Effective communicator with ability to provide formative and constructive feedback for enhanced learning.
  • Highly developed internationally-minded, positive interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • The ability to be flexible, patient, adapt to new situations and innovate learning environments.
  • A positive attitude to students and parents.
  • Proactively support the mission, vision and values of the school.
