Microsoft is offering Microsoft AI Development Acceleration internship Program- Applied Scientist: Full Time Opportunities for PhD Graduates, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States (Up to 50% work from home). Microsoft has launched a ground-breaking program to develop the next generation of leaders in AI. Located at the Microsoft New England Research and Development Center (NERD) and our Atlanta office, the Microsoft AI Development Acceleration Program (MAIDAP) is hiring applicants currently pursing a PhD degree and PhD graduates from programs in Machine Learning or Data Science related fields. Must be available to begin full time employment starting Summer 2023. 

Duties & responsibilities

  1. Research, develop, and lead the implementation of AI solutions in application projects for Microsoft’s products and services. 
  2. Select and apply appropriate statistical and machine learning techniques to large-scale, high-dimensional data. 
  3. Stay current with the latest research and technology and communicate your knowledge throughout the organization. 
  4. Take responsibility for preparing data for analysis, review data preparation/ETL code and provide critical feedback on issues of data integrity. 
  5. Share knowledge by clearly articulating results and ideas to customers, managers, and key decision makers. 
  6. Patent and publish relevant IP and scientific research. 
  7. Up to 10% travel may be required. 

Eligibility criteria

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
  • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong publication record in any of the following modeling paradigms: LLMs/probabilistic graphical models/Bayesian networks/deep learning/reinforcement learning/time series/active 
  • Experience in any of the deep learning frameworks. 
  • 2+ years experience and proven knowledge in Python/R/Scala or similar.
  • Application experience in language, speech, vision, graphics, gaming, recommendation
  • systems, or other big-data applications a bonus. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Energized by creating AI solutions that can positively impact the work and lives of millions of people.
  • Strong passion for data-driven learning.
  • Excited by the prospect of working on a wide variety of datasets and AI applications, across many products and engineering teams. 
  • Believe that AI is a team sport
  • Love being an active member of a diverse and inclusive cohort.
