Opportunity description
UpWork offers a remote job opportunity as a Principal Payments and Tax Engineer. The payments team plays a critical role in this mission by building services and experiences that enable Upwork customers and freelancers to transact on the platform with ease. Your responsibilities will include building software for large, complex systems and ensuring that it meets the company's quality standards. You must be able to mentor and train other engineers technically.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Build and design the next generation of large-scale, multi-tier systems, applications, and services on Upwork.
- Understand business requirements from internal/external and technical/non-technical stakeholders and convert them into technical specifications to build faster, scalable technology solutions and systems.
- Act as a technical lead throughout the software development life cycle including requirements understanding, analysis, design, implementation and testing.
- Understand the strategies, standards and guidelines of the data analytics and solutions team.
- Lead, shape and influence the definition and vision of the Upwork payments platform and other related systems.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Practical experience in building large, multi-functional systems.
- Proven experience in software development methodologies and building complex web systems.
- Ability to lead multiple technical programs aimed at designing various systems and their solutions in a fast-paced environment.
- The annual base salary for this job in California and Washington ranges from $170,000 to $270,000. The salary range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries for this job in California and Washington, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. You will also be eligible for the Annual Bonus Plan and Sales Incentive Plan and will be able to participate in the Long-Term Stock Incentive Program.
