GEMS Education offers a full-time job opportunity for the position of Student Counsellor at Cambridge International School - Dubai. You will mainly work to embrace and encourage the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the GEMS Core Values.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Establish procedures and time frames to provide students with academic, personal, social, emotional, and psychological counseling.
- Work with new students to ensure a smooth adjustment to the school.
- Provide students with guidance on admission to higher education institutions.
- Organise and process recommendations for students to higher education institutions and provide assistance with application procedures.
- Provide opportunities for students to take tests for admission to higher education institutions.
- Maintain and update a list of colleges and universities which have accepted students from the school.
- Liaise with the Librarian to provide and update careers and college material.
- In conjunction with the senior management team organise and coordinate career sessions with representatives from a range of professions.
- Establish, maintain, and update a record of Alumni.
- Establish procedures for securing external assistance for students with personal problems and emotional needs.
- Work with the senior management team to develop experiences and activities that are beneficial for students’ holistic development, and that promote responsibility, leadership skills, cooperation, and other personal and social skills.
- Maintain student records on progress, achievements, activities, and interests.
- Establish proactive guidelines and procedures to deal with bullying.
- Establish and administer appropriate testing programs to evaluate student aptitude and achievement.
- Establish systems to notify parents promptly about problems in class, with school work, or behavioral issues.
- Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
- Initiate effort and energy beyond the typical work day, where the tasks require additional commitment.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Perform other duties as requested by direct & dotted reporting line managers/supervisors.

Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- A degree in education/psychology/counseling.
- At least three years of school-based experience or previous experience working with schools and students in a counseling capacity.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and empathy.
- Ability to build strong relationships with students and gain their trust.
- Understand the importance of confidentiality and discretion.
- You are preferred to have:
- Masters Degree.
- Years of Experience range from 5 to 18 years.
- Residence Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
