Opportunity description

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is seeking an International UN Volunteer to serve as a People and Culture (Human Resources) Officer in Conakry, Guinea. For a duration of 12 months (with the possibility of extension), the volunteer will act as a strategic business partner, providing expert HR advice, supporting the employment life cycle, and implementing corporate HR strategies to enhance the capacity of UNICEF staff.


Please note this is a FREE opportunity with no application or processing fees. As an onsite, full-time International assignment, it provides long-term benefits and living allowances to support relocation and living expenses in Conakry.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Serve as the single point of contact for clients regarding all aspects of the employment life cycle for all categories of staff.

  • Provide accurate, proactive advice on People and Culture (P&C) processes, policies, and the transparent resolution of HR issues.

  • Contribute to strategic workforce planning, recruitment of personnel (staff, consultants), and their orientation/induction.

  • Support the implementation of key HR initiatives, including the Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategy and the OneHR Strategy.

  • Liaise with Headquarters and regional offices to support corporate P&C strategy formulation and system improvements.

  • Implement the Guinea 2025 Global Staff Survey Action Plan and other Duty of Care Initiatives.

Eligibility criteria

  • Must be a national of a country OTHER than Guinea (Strict International assignment rule).

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, International Relations, Psychology, or a relevant field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in Human Resources Management at the national or international level.

  • Fluent in both English and French (Required).

  • In-depth technical knowledge of HR management principles, IT systems, and e-recruitment platforms.

  • Experience implementing targeted, innovative human resources strategies within a fast-paced organizational setting.

  • Willingness to live and work in potentially harsh conditions, as Guinea experiences a tropical monsoon climate and periodic socio-political crises.
