Opportunity description
Transdisciplinary Experimental Slovenian Art Award (TESLA) invites applications from artists of all art fields for a chance to have their artworks displayed to the world. The award aims to to improve the conditions of artistic production in the field of intermedia art, in response to the growing interest in research-based practices in Slovenia and broader Eastern European region.
TESLA is looking for ideas for outdoor artworks that use water as a structural element or that reflect on the importance of water in cities. The artworks can incorporate the existing waters and water structures of Almaty, Kazakhstan, like fountains, rivers and other forms of water in the city center. The artworks will be installed in public spaces near the water structures or in them. TESLA invites new public space projects from individual artists or groups, yet existing projects are welcome if TESLA’s contribution will be key to develop them towards a new direction. Also, applicants are free to use any DIY tactics, reused, recycled materials and discarded resources in their artworks.
Selection criteria and awards:
Submissions will be evaluated and reviewed by a jury of project curators and representatives of Artbat and TodaysArt festivals on the basis of creativity and originality, quality, technical accuracy, and content. Winners will be notified through email in July 2018. Winning proposals will be awarded with a 4,000 euros production grant and have their works premiered at the opening of Artbat Fest in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 24 August 2018.
About Transdisciplinary Experimental Slovenian Art Award:
TESLA Award is a new competition focusing on new and progressive art forms in the field of transdisciplinary or intermedia art. Its mission is to provide optimal conditions for selected artists to research, produce and present an entirely new artwork under the mentorship of Museum of Transitory Art (MoTA) and each year’s partners. This year TESLA partners with Artbat Fest in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and Bellastock from Paris, to support two public space works to be installed in Almaty.
TESLA awards new ideas which are yet to be produced. In this regard TESLA Award acts as a motivator for realisation of great ideas that would otherwise be difficult to complete. By offering cash prize, travel costs, and production support TESLA aims to empower emerging creators on their way to professional career and to bring new ideas to light.
