Opportunity description
The 16th annual Tom Howard/Margaret Reid Poetry Contest is open again to people from all ages, backgrounds and nationalities to participate with their published and unpublished work of poetry for 2018. The results will be announced on April 15, 2019.
Participation rules:
[1] Participants may submit published or unpublished work of poetry, and the contest accepts multiple entries (one at a time)
[2] Poems must be submitted without identification
[3] Font is preferred to be 12-point type or larger, and fancy hard-to-read fonts are to be avoided
[4] The length limit is 250 lines per poem
[5] There is a participation fee of $12 per poem
[6] For Margaret Reid Prize, a poem in a traditional style employs regular meter and/or rhyme, or is written in a recognized poetic form. This includes traditional western forms such as ballads, sonnets, and blank verse, and Asian forms such as tanka , haiku and other traditional forms
Prizes:
[1] Tom Howard Prize: $1,500 for a poem in any style or genre
[2] Margaret Reid Prize: $1,500 for a poem that rhymes or has a traditional style
[3] Top two winners will receive one-year gift certificates from the contest’s co-sponsor, Duotrope (a $50 value)
[4] Honorable mentions: 10 awards of $100 each (any style)
[5] Top 12 entries will be published online
