Opportunity description
The Youth Ag Summit is a global forum where young leaders can collaborate to develop sustainable solutions for food security and global agriculture, and work towards becoming global instruments of change. The Summit takes place every two years, with previous editions having been held in Canada (2013), Australia (2015) and Belgium (2017). The next edition of the Youth Ag Summit will take place in Brasilia, Brazil from November 4 – 6, 2019.
100 young leaders aged 18-25 (as of November 3rd, 2019), who are interested in agriculture, international development, environmental stewardship, food security, biotechnology, or farming, will be selected to participate in the Summit. They are expected to come to the table with an appetite to advocate for agriculture, a concrete project idea, and a desire to make a lasting impact on food security. The delegates will be supported throughout the Summit by external mentors and Youth Ag Summit alumni.
Which costs are covered?
The costs for attending the Summit are covered by the Youth Ag Summit organizers. These include: flights, transportation, accommodation, and catering during the event. Any other travel costs unrelated to Youth Ag Summit activities will not be covered by the organizers.
Conditions for Attending the Youth Ag Summit
All applicants are asked to submit a video pitch for an idea that could contribute to tackling the underlying causes of food insecurity, and the impact it is having on a growing population. The core competition question is based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger).
Applications should address the following context in their video submission:
- In the context of “How to Feed a Hungry Planet?”, you are asked to explain your own project idea related to this topic in your video pitch.
- Other things you are asked to address:
- Who are you and why are you interested in agriculture, or passionate about food security?
- What is your (big or small) project idea for “feeding a hungry planet”?
- How did you get to this project idea and what is your master plan?
- Why are you so passionate about your project?
- How would you use the opportunity of being a YAS delegate to make a change in your local community?
